The Pokemon craze has taken over! How can you make the much sought after costume for your kids this Halloween?
Halloween is the time of year to experiment with your sewing skills. Even someone with no sewing experience can sew together a costume. Coutour and fitting take a different aspect on costumes then it does on a garment. This site has all kinds of resources that can get anyone started.
POKEMON PICTURES takes you too all kinds of Pokemon characters. Each one of these characters is an exaggeration of insects and critters.
Although the major pattern companies do not have "Pokemon" Costume patterns, they do have many insects and critters. By starting with a basic insect, your imagination is the only limit from transforming a regular insect into a Pokemon character, fit for any child's imagination.
Changing the fabric color to match the character is your first step. Alterations to accentuate the eyes can take many forms. Many of the Pokemon characters have the protruding, over emphasized eyes. Using either egg shaped or a round Styrofoam ball, sliced in half and painted, you can replace the fabric eyes on patterns with three dimensional, character eyes.
Extra arms and legs are on many of the Pokemon characters. These can be drawn and added to the side seams of your costumes after a light stuffing with polyfill to give them dimension.
Patterns for Bugs and Critters:
McCall's Patterns Online Halloween Collection
Browse the right frame for viewing the various McCalls Halloween patterns. Their Pot Belly Costumes features butterfly, ladybug, spider, ant or bumble bee. Characterizing these costumes into Pokemon makes almost any Pokemon character possible.
For example: Beedrill can be made from the Mc Calls Bee Pattern. Styrofoam balls, cut in half and glued to the hat would accentuate the eyes. cloth covered, poster board cones could be added to the hand covers to accentuate the "drills" on Beedrill.
Butterfree could be made with the butterfly version of the pattern. Using stryofoam eyes, color choices and accentuating the wings will rapidly resemble Butterfree.
Simplilcity Pattern Catalog
Browse their catalog from your computer, find costumes in the bottom left hand frame and then choose the size area you are looking for. A huge selection that may take a while to download. One of insects that would be adaptable for Pokemon costumes is Simplicity Pattern 8279. This could be an even easier choice for resembling a lady bug or spider, with this 2 hour Express pattern.
There is no better time of year for expanding our creativity and experimenting with altering patterns to make what you want out of them! Look at each part of the character you want to create and work from there.
